Vignette
A toll sticker or digital registration that grants access to Austrian motorways and expressways. Required for all vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes.
ASFINAG
Autobahnen- und Schnellstraßen-Finanzierungs-Aktiengesellschaft. The state-owned company that finances, plans, builds, and operates Austria's motorway and expressway network.
Streckenmaut (Section Toll)
A separate toll charged for specific mountain routes and tunnels, in addition to the vignette. Examples: Brenner Pass, Arlberg Tunnel, Karawanken Tunnel.
Digital Vignette
A vignette registered by licence plate number in the ASFINAG database, without a physical sticker. Checked electronically by enforcement cameras.
GO-Box
An electronic device required for vehicles over 3.5 tonnes. Charges a distance-based toll instead of a flat vignette fee.
Organmandat
An on-the-spot fine issued by police or ASFINAG enforcement officers for driving without a valid vignette. Maximum €240.
Anzeige (Prosecution)

10-Day Vignette

The 10-day vignette is ideal for tourists making a short visit or passing through Austria. It is valid for 10 consecutive days from the date of purchase (physical) or the selected start date (digital). Price in 2025: €11.50 for cars.

This is the most popular option for European tourists driving through Austria on their way to other destinations. It covers the full motorway network except section toll routes.

2-Month Vignette

The 2-month vignette covers two full calendar months. For example, a vignette purchased in July covers July and August. Price in 2025: €29.00 for cars.

This option suits travellers spending an extended holiday in Austria or those making multiple trips within a two-month period. It offers better value than two 10-day vignettes for stays exceeding 10 days.

Annual Vignette

The annual vignette is valid from 1 December of the previous year to 31 January of the following year (14 months total). Price in 2025: €96.40 for cars. This is the best value option for frequent travellers to Austria.

The digital annual vignette must be purchased at least 18 days before the desired start date. The physical annual vignette becomes available for purchase from 1 November of the preceding year.
